Resurrect dialogue with dxRevive

dxRevive is a versatile speech restoration plugin, dedicated to enriching the quality of various dialogue recordings. Unlike many other restoration plugins, dxRevive doesn’t merely filter the signal. It goes beyond, identifying and reintegrating missing frequency components, yielding studio-like recordings from diverse source materials.

DxRevive Pro has become a huge asset in post production. In an industry where you don’t have much time to fuss over iPhone recordings for replacement ADR, DxRevive just brings the dialogue to life with very quick results. In a sea of AI cleaning and enhancement tools, it stands out as a true gem.

What surprised me about dxRevivePro is that it’s not just about noise reduction. It naturally and elegantly adjusts the body in the dialog and the amount of room in the dialog, too. But the best part? It’s adjustable in real-time and it’s automatable, so you can use it in a mix quickly without doing tedious offline renders. I’m using it on advertising campaigns right now. Big thumbs up!

dxRevivePro has a refreshingly simple UI. Its adjustable multi band parameters are particularly handy and are the most effective I have come across. Producing fewer artefacts, and retaining more life and energy than its competitors, it is a must-have in any dialogue editor or mixer's arsenal.

dxRevive Pro is a powerful tool for cleaning dialogue and vocals. I was able to use it on a feature film to save some seriously spotty dialogue that had evaded all other attempts at cleaning. dxRevive Pro is a welcome addition to my toolbox.

Since using dxRevive my other AI noise-reduction plugins have remained mostly dormant. If I could only use one noise-reduction plugin ever again it would be dxRevive.

I’m very impressed with dxRevive. It works well across a broad range of background noise issues, and can be used fairly aggressively before introducing any obvious artefacts. I’ve been able to make scenes work with the original performances that I would otherwise have had to cue for ADR.

Studio Algorithm

The Studio algorithms remove noise, reverb, and codec artifacts while also applying EQ and spectral resynthesis to achieve a studio-like recording, regardless of the original recording conditions. “Studio” and “Studio 2” algorithms are available in dxRevive and dxRevivePro. The Pro version additionally comes with our newest generation “Studio 3”.

EQ Restore Algorithm

EQ Restore doesn’t aim to remove any noise or reverb; instead, it fixes spectral issues by applying EQ and spectral resynthesis if necessary. This way, the natural ambience is preserved while only enhancing the speech.A crucial aspect of EQ Restore is that it applies EQ solely to the speech without altering the frequencies of the underlying noise or ambience. This selective approach isn’t possible with conventional EQ, which modifies the entire signal, affecting both speech and background components. The EQ Restore algorithm is only available in the PRO version!

Note

The algorithms have been highly optimized to enable 100% local processing, and modern machines should be able to run even a few instances in parallel in real-time. However, dxRevive and dxRevive Pro still require significant CPU resources. The best performance can be expected on Apple silicon-based Macs (M-series). Especially within larger projects, we recommend using them in an offline rendering workflow, such as with Pro Tools AudioSuite or Nuendo/Cubase DOP.
